"I began making soap about 25 years ago, searching for something that would ease my dry winter skin. Although 1990 seems like only yesterday, it was pre-internet days and it took an inter-library loan to find a book with a useable soap recipe. Another six months passed while I tracked down all the necessary supplies to make that first exhilarating batch. It was a creamy, beautiful success and I was hooked!
My soap is made with a combination of sustainably sourced, food grade raw ingredients; coconut oil for lather, palm oil for hardness and over 30% olive oil for its wonderful skin-softening qualities.
For 17 years I peddled my soaps at arts and craft shows throughout the West. It was hard work, traveling around from show to show, but I made many friends and longtime customers along the way.
In 2005 I bought a rattle-trap old building in a questionable part of East Spokane. The original 1907 house had been chopped up into offices and the attached work space was home to a long defunct cabinet shop. For several years the place had been used as a community Haunted House, complete with body outlines and fake blood.
We teach classes, make soap, and stock a large assortment of soap, lotion and lip balm supplies for the growing number of folks who want to do it themselves. Making soap and teaching others to make soap continues to feed my creative needs. It’s been a labor of love to grow Greencastle into the lively cottage industry it is today, and for that I am most grateful."
